AUXILIARY POLICE POSITIONS AND INFORMATION
 

The Town of La Crosse Police Department has an Auxiliary Police Unit.

The personnel in this unit volunteer their time to the police department on a regular basis.

There are several positions in the Town of La Crosse Police Department Auxiliary Police:

Sworn Police Officer (Auxiliary)
An auxiliary police officer is a person who has graduated from the police academy and has served as a police officer in anotherjurisdiction, either full or part-time. This position has the same function, authority and duties as the full time sworn police officer. Auxiliary Police Officers may serve in all of the police departments units or divisions.

Police Support Specialist (Auxiliary)
A Police Support Specialist (PSS) provides clerical and other support for the police department as needed. PSS personnel might answer phones, file reports, enter data in the computer, compile crime statistics, analyze crime statistics, accompany patrol officers and investigators to crime scenes, ride on patrol with police officers and serve in other positions within the department at the discretion of the Chief of Police. This is a non-sworn position.

All applicants for Auxiliary Police positions undergo a thorough background investigation.
